Invention - I have some ideas. What's the best way to proceed?

Question:
I saw lot of websites relating to invention. Dont know which is a scam and which is legit. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Answers:
You need to document yor process, as your invention progress. You will need to see a patent attorney at some point, so you can claim all legal rights to your idea. Beware of scam companies, and bring someone you trust to all legal procedings.
make. it make sure it works first ..
dont give any instructions to anyone else .. that you dont know or trust cause they could scabb your idea. im glad you didnt put up a thing like ' ive come up with this invention what can i do to make it? " lol that wouldbe silly. make sure it works before.. then call up news people and tell them then may be people will want to buy it off you ?? =] lol i dont know good luck =] xxx take care
You need a patent first. Otherwise, you're just advertising it to the world and anyone can make it theirs.

You need to search for the best way to get a patent. This is the first and absolute hardest part. Some people hire patent lawyers, some do it on their own. Sorry I don't have more advice for you on that, but I do know that it's the first thing you need to do.

Alternatively, you could leave it in the hands of whatever invention company you deal with, but I'm quite sure they'd own the patent, not you. Of course that's better than nothing!
When I click to the website that unsafe, usually I would know by the bar came down from my menu bar. It said,"Do you want to around this website?" I don't think you could be sure nowadays with anything.
don't mess with those "let us help get your idea patented" sites. the best way to do it is the hardest, but it will keep you from getting scammed. make sure your idea is a feasible one, get at least one working product made, then find a local patent office to get it patented (go to a site called 'Patent Reference' for help finding local offices and patent lawyers). Once you have all this done, you'll have to find investors to get your idea up and running. Hope this helped. Good Luck!
i have three patent pending products right now and you need a patent attorney it is not a scary process. i dont care who you use but i have loved my relationship with litman law 1 800 4patent is there phone number its free to talk to them to see how to proceed. you need to get advice because it will be important if you want an international patent as well as a us. i will try to help you if you would like i dont want to know what your item is just give you some straight info. fax me at 585-682-6040 and i will call you back if you are in the usa its to much to write it all out.
We have patents in 18 countries. But when I started, I first read a book called, "Patent It Yourself" which I'm sure is still in print or has been revised. As others have said, you need to be able to PROVE you invented the idea and/or design yourself BEFORE talking to anybody about it. What we did is sketch out a reasonably rough design, write up a brief history of "how" we came upon the invention, "why" we believed it was necessary, and what it could be used for in the future.

THEN we put all of these original documents with our original signatures (notarized would be nice) into a secure, weather-proofed package or envelope, and mailed it to ourselves certified with seals around the openings. We would NEVER open it unless, and until, we needed it. Especially not before you actually go through a full patent search procedure and initiate an actual patent yourself.

By the way, out of probalby 500 "inventions" only 1 or 2 ever try to get a patent. That's a shame because Americans have the most inventive minds in the world and a lot of good ideas are never shared.

Inventors like Tesla and Einstein shared their ideas in spite of no monetary promises. They wanted the world to benefit.
Not everybody is sitting around waiting for your invention to steal. Just take the reasonable measures I mentioned above. Then start to see if it would gain momentum.

Watch the show, "American Inventor". Thousands try, only a handful succeed. Is your invention REALLY useful and will it catch on? Would others REALLY buy it or is it just a neat idea? Either way, it's cool. You're improving the world. Good luck.
