Is there a limit that you should not exceed for Link Exchange on blogs (is it bad to have more than a certain number of other people's links on your site)?

Answers:
Blindly exchanging links is frowned upon by Google if you're using Adsense for your revenue stream. They have excellent algorightms for detecting and will remove you from their account if suspected of unethical conduct. Illegitimate link exchanges also decrease your profile in the blogging community and with readers. It is best to find like-minded areas of expertise/blogs and exchange links with them in a real fashion. Comment on each other's posts, etc. There are several sources on page ranking too, which indicated that blindly exchanging links will not increase your rank since it's unlikely that the traders will have high page ranks themselves; additionally, a high out-link count decreases the benefit for each site linked.
Reciprocal link exchanges are frowned upon by search engines. The best links are one way links from relevant/same subject blogs.
