Golf outings between executives of the company?

Question:
Do executives of all companies always have golf outings during the spring an summer? And do they really like golf or do they do it just for the fundraising and/or potential business partners? (Or is it just the company I work for?) LOL

Answers:
As a exec I love to entertain my clients on the course because you have full control. I mean think about it you can throw your pitch all day and they have no where to go LOL LOL LOL they are stuck with you at least 4 hours and can't make an excuse to leave the situation when the pressure is on. Close ratios are much higher due to some alcohol and fine cigars. I see this even in women just as much as men. It is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, conduct business, hold their feet to the fire and get a little excersise.

My 2 cents
I used to ask myself the same question and no it's not only your company. Business executives just simply view golf as a way of good public relations. They may not even like it but if its going to strengthen a potential deal then they'll love it.lol For many executives golf is whats in style.
If they didn't enjoy it, they wouldn't do it. It could be for fundraising, could be just for networking, mostly it's a day out of the office. Many companies do it.

I had to laugh when I worked for a company in Florida. The salesmen would start to disappear on Fridays before Noon. I couldn't reach them when I needed them. They said they were networking. Riiiggghhhhtttt. Out on the golf course. Sure they were usually with customers, but the same customers every week. Sure they were. By the time they reached the 19th hole, they were worthless.
Whether they're any good at golf or not, most people would enjoy the free round and the beer. I've never met a single person who didn't.
perhaps it's more about a day out of the office and beer... :)
When you get to a certain level in business, relationships become more important than anything else. Playing golf is not just about drilling a sales pitch into some guy who is stuck with you all day. It's about spending the day together, having a few beers/cigars, celebrating a few really good shots (laughing off some horrible ones), giving/receiving advice about your swing, and ultimately - getting a feel for the person's true character/personality outside of an office environment. The next time you work with that person in a professional situation, there is a higher level of trust and understanding - which is priceless.

DO NOT start pitching to this person when you first get out on the course. Wait until the back 9 or even the "19th Hole" over cocktails to discuss your solution/product/service. Better yet, wait for them to bring it up. They will be more open-minded/honest with you if they don't feel like they are being attacked with a sales pitch.
