Alternatively, try the classifieds such as craigslist, gumtree, loot or google base.
Ebay is the most popular and well used.They are reputable and have tools set up to protect both the buyer and the seller.I would stick with Ebay.
It depends what you are selling. I'm pretty sure there are sites devoted to particular items such as books only or collectibles
