Question:
Myself and a few other parents recently chipped in to build a website to buy and sell kids items like clothes shoes toys etc. We were fed up with the rising costs of posting at ebay and paying all the commissions on sales.
We have the site built now (cost us a pretty penny but we are pleased with it) To start off we are going to offer free credit to new members to list their items and eventually will be just 10p a week for the ads and no commissions on sales.
We basically need to attract parents to the new site on a next to nothing advertising budget. We are already exchnaging links with other sites and have done a little bit of cheap advertising on the net. Any ideas on how to get in touch with lots of uk parents without spamming forums or groups which we definitely don't want to do??
Answers:
Have you tried to contact schools direct to ask if they want to get involved and pass the word on - this is the best site Ive found.

Its not a group nor a forum but theres loads of info to contact schools in your specific area.
Good Luck I hope you succeed.
online: classified ads are usually free, paid to surf sites will put your site in rotation if you look at other people's sites, create banner ads and you can find deals on ebay (I know you are upset with ebay) of people offering advertising on their site for 2 or 3 dollars for a few monthes
offline: talk to people, give out business cards-which you can get free at www.vistaprint.com, a press release, a grand opening of the site party, create coupons and pass them out, flyer on the bulletin board at work or religious group, etc.
