If you click on a cost per click ad, does it charge you over and over again?

Question:
If I advertise with Yahoo and Google for cost per click, what if one person clicks on the ad like 5 times, will I get charged 5 times or just once? What if they click on the ad every day, do I get charged once a day? Thanks for the input.

Answers:
In theory you are chared per click, however, in response to advertisre's fears about click fraud, Google uses IP address, click frequency and click recency to determine if a click is likely to be fruad. if some one clicks on your ad 5 times in 5 minutes, you won't get charged for all 5. if they click once a day for a few days, you will be, but if they click once a day for weeks Google will flag that as fraud and not charge you. It's not perfect, and it you suspect it is happening, buy click fruad software.
You get charged EVERY TIME the ad is clicked. So if a person clicks on the ad 5 times, then you get charged 5 times. If you click on the ad everyday, you'll get charged for every click you make on that day.

Hence, some savvy advertisers use some software to protect them from persistent clicks -- e.g. a person clicking on their ad 5 times or more. That's one way to protect themselves from invalid clicks and from competitor sabotage.
I've always worked with the understanding that the search providers monitor the frequency of clicks from any one IP address and do not charge for subsequent clicks within a given time frame.

We've tested this with a client in the past and they were only charged for the first few clicks and not for repeats after that.

I know that the engines TALK a big game about click fraud, but they keep those algorithms under tight lock & key.

I'd recommend you test it for yourself. Choose one of your keywords that has little to no competition and try it out. if it's a minimum bid, you'd only be looking at a few dollars in click.
If you click over and over again, it considers as a fraud
