How many times do people have to say "I'm not interested" before it sinks in that they're NOT interested in whatever crap they're trying to peddle, nor being interrupted at dinner (or any other time) for such an unnecessary reason?

they get paid a lot to do it, if they're in the us. Otherwise, they get pauid too low, and they're desperate. I just lie to them and tell them that im the maid and the owners went on a three month honeymoon

A requirement to get hired as a telemarketer is that you have to have only half of a brain.
Telemarketers are just like the rest of us out there.just a bunch of squirrels trying to get a nut. (But what a crappy way to make a living!) I try hard not to be rude but I think it is something they just deal with. They go through a ton of names and phone numbers and once in a while they hook a sucker ! From what I am told...make a serious amount of money bugging us while we try to eat dinner!

It's their job to be like that. I used to be a telemakketer for my college and all you have to do is get really mad on the phoen and say never call my house again and take me off the call list and then they shoudl take you out of the database of people to call.
i used to be one, and i quit! man, those people want you to do follow up calls, and they just bug and bug. They are really just trying to do their jobs.
I don't think they are retarded...just persistent. Put your name on the National No Call list and tell them you're on it when they call. They are not supposed to call you back. Also, put your cell number on that no call list too. It's gotten to the point where telemarketers will try that number too.
That's what caller ID is supposedly for, but the calls still get thru, and I always tell them to give me their home phone number and I will get back to them, and they say they can't , cuz I can't call them at home, and I say,Why do you call me at home then? They are so retarded, its pathetic, I have even told them if they call again I will report them, cuz if u tell them not to call again and they do, you can report them for harrassment...just don't accept restricded calls, or out of area, if's it's important, they will leave a msg.and sometimes they use a computer to call a random number. They are just doing their job? Well, its time for them to get another one!! If they are that desperate, they deserve what they get when people hang up on them.
There are no excuses for someone just doing their job,
