Question:
Im a senior in high school trying to decide on a career. Im really intresed in sonography but before I start the degree program I would like to know what kind of hours they work. I know RN's that work in a hospital can work 3 12s or 2 12s on the weekend, and I would like to have a schedule like that. Is this possible in ultrasound, or are there only 8 hour shifts? thank you so much!
Answers:
I work in an free standing out patient imaging center, so my work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 - 5:30. Hospital schedules can vary depending on the work load at that particular hospital. There are day shifts consisting of 8 hour days. There are evening and overnight shifts, if the hospital staffs the ultrasound tech 24 hours a day (this does not happen often). In a hospital setting, ultrasound techs can be "on call" if the department is not staffed 24 hours a day. Some hospitals work their technical staff on 10 hours a day, four days a week. Some techs work weekends in a hospital, some hospitals just have ultrasound techs on call over the weekend. See what I mean? Best wishes..
