Question:
Hello I am a 27 year old single mother of 3 living in Houston TX and I am currently in school taking the basics. I have a felony theft charge on my record and I want to get a good paying job. Does any one know a field I can recieve a AA in and get a job with my felony? Making somewhere around 2500, to 3000 a month . I just started school so I can change my major with no problem.
Answers:
Here is a link to a website that discusses the problems that felons in Texas face in a variety of categories, including employment. It also lists the specific jobs that a convicted felon cannot hold in the State of Texas.
Good for you for going back to school! As for what jobs you can get with an AA degree, focus on the things that you like to do. Are you a people person, outgoing - maybe Marketing. Do you like to tinker and know how things work - maybe the IT field. Do you like working with numbers - perhaps accounting. Are you very organized and like to assist others - perhaps an Administrative Assistant. All of these positions would provide a decent salary.
I hope this is helpful - good luck!
You may be able to receive a job. However, having a felony theft charge will be a big turn-off to many different types of employers. However, you going to have to work three times as hard as other applicants to receive the same position. State Laws will also affect which jobs you can receive. However, their is still hope. You should also try to have the charge expunged from your records (This depends on your state's laws and should be done with a experienced attorney).
