Question:
Should I be asking both my current and/or past employers for permission for an employer to contact them if I am looking for another job? Or can I just say it's OK to contact them without asking? Or should I just say it's not OK? I don't really want to ask a current employer, and I don't really want to contact old employers since we've been out of touch.
Answers:
i think it is ok to say yes, employers know people will be calling for references on past employees.
if its your current employer and you dont want them to know you are looking for another job then i would put no.
If it is a professional job usually it is assumed by the company and hr department that you will need a reference.
Okay, here's the scoop. If your employer knows you are leaving, it is perfectly fine for you to tell another perspective employer "yes, it is ok to contact my present employer". The decision to say yes or no is entirely up to you.
However, if you are searching for employment and your current employer has no ideal you are thinking of leaving then, by all means DO NOT tell anyone to contact your current employer.
Any decent company isn't going to hire you unless you let them check out your past employment. You don't need to contact your old/present employers to see if it's OK with them. This is a standard practice in the business industry.
Tell them to call your past employers. Mention to your past managers what you have done. A heads up is always good .
If you did a good job, you have nothing to worry about. If you were not the greatest employee, the heads up may help you.
Your prospective employer may not even call since you put down its OK to contact. Good luck.always be honest...you will go further.
