Medical technology ASCP?

Question:
I am confused here, please someone explain...

Requirement for ASCP licensure:

Route 1: Complete the minimum of a four year degree or diploma from an accredited/approved* educational institution AND complete a Medical Laboratory program,*

Route 2: Complete the minimum of a four year degree or diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or any biological or chemical science from an accredited/approved* educational institution AND complete two years full-time experience including all aspects of the clinical laboratory in an accredited/approved** laboratory facility, OR

What does Medical Laboratory program mean? Does this mean that I need to have 2 years working experience from a hospital? I thought no work experience is needed, just the med tech diploma... Just wondering =.)

Answers:
If you get a Bachelors degree in Medical Technology in a program that has you do internships you are covered. The second route is for those who may have gotten a degree in a different field and worked in the lab for a while.
I'm an MT, ASCP so I hope I can help. :)

You need to take the 4 years of schooling and complete a period of time as a student in a Medical Laboratory which is usually a hospital lab that works with the university. I had to take the 4 years plus a summer class plus intern for one semester learning all the med tech fields at a hospital.

I've never heard of Route 2 so it might be specific to your state. I live in Illinois. I doubt most hospitals would hire a student until they are accredited and have passed the Registry exam. Route 1 is probably the route that's more often used.

The way i know is a 4yr degree in medical technology/clinical lab science. which most schools offer an internship which will help you to get experience and you have to be licensed too. check out your local university or hospitals for more info.
hey consider mo pala ung ascpi, ung international, iba sya sa ascp. route 1 tayo pag ascpi, pag ascp kelangan ng 5years experience sa accredited blah blah basta sa US mo kelangan inexperience.route 4 pag sa ascp.
