Answers:
I smile when I'm at work, but really, having so many people grump at you in a row is going to make anyone crabby. How about saying, "hi!" and introducing yourself if you're actually going to be shopping there? You never know, you might make a friend and then have an insider's scoop.
Stop giving them BS for stuff that's out of their control.
pay them a decent wage
