Can credit card numbers be distinguished from Debit Card Numbers?

Question:
Is there anything in these numbers that identifies them as either a debit or credit card?

Answers:
Yes, usually it the first couple of digits of the card that show the type.

The first character being 4 is a Visa Card, 5 for a Master Card and 6 for a debit card.

I think you will find it is the last four digits what gives the game away.
Its the FIRST few digits that identify the bank ..

(the last 8 are your account number :-) )
Just by looking at the card numbers there is not anything that would identify them as a debit or credit card. But, internally the bank that issues the card will know the type of card it is.

However, a debit card will have the word "debit" somewhere on the card.
the first 4 digits between them identify the type of card and the issuer.
This is a very helpful tool to determine which is which
the first 8 on most cards are the cards information. you could probaly tell from the first 4 digits. the last 8 is to identify each customer. At my job we always use the last 4 digits to indentify a paid customer
It's usually the first 4 digits
