I started receiving calls from "Allied Interstate" a couple of weeks ago. I haven't answered any of their calls, just saw it on my caller ID. Since they haven't left any messages on my machine, I don't know what the calls are for/about.
I did a google search and learned that they are a collection agency, with a lot of people complaining about them for unethical practices. These "unethical practices" include but are not limited to trying to collect "debts" that are non-existent (?).
As far as I know, all my bills / credit cards / loans are current. Why would these people be calling me? What should I do if they call? I want to be prepared since I've read about people getting harrassed for no apparent valid reason!

Never talk with a collection agent on the phone. Nothing good can come from it. All your communications with them should be in writing.
Send them a debt validation letter to see what they are claiming you owe them. You may also want to check your credit reports to see if they are reporting to them. If they are, you are going to want to do a "pay for delete".
They are involved in a new scam as of late where they try to collect on accounts that are still at Chase; you call them and they say to call Chase; it is kind of ridiculuos.
good attempt, you may want to act quickly to see if you are not involve in any form of identity theft. requesting a free report from the 3 major credit bureau will be a good idea but will not give you details about your credit. rather pay (in most cases $1 for the first month and about) $10 monthly) for a detailed report also request access to your credit report online and you can view daily progress of your credit.
do this before you call this people and you will on hand know what they will talk about and what to tell them.
