Question:
Hi! I've been seeing calls on my caller ID from Allied Interstate for about 2 weeks now, roughly every 2-3 days, all from different numbers, but with "Allied Interstate" as the identified caller. They never leave a message.
As far as I know, all my accounts are current, and I really don't know why they would be calling my number. I do have an account with BofA, but I've been making regular payments on that.
I'm trying to figure out what I should do. Would it be a good idea to call them back? To pick up the phone the next time they call? Or to just ignore it until I get something in the mail? I'm just afraid that I will wake up one day to find that my credit score is in the dumps because of some "debt" that I wasn't aware of or that doesn't exist but it somehow being collected (I've read about this company's unethical practices).
HELP! Someone please give me some advice.
Answers:
i did a bit of telemarketing before, we use to call every few days as a call back if no one answers but we were never allowed to leave a message, if its a debt collector trust me they do leave the message usually in a really Stern voice and a ref number to quote on call back. just pick up next time more then likely it will be someone trying to sell insurance, if its the debt collector its up to you weather you want to talk to them or tell them its the wrong number. all the best
Look, your worst fears of bad credit may be realized if you don't address this issue now. It may simply be a wrong number. It could be something else but small. You could hire a 3rd party to make the 5 minute call for you if you are not up to it. Check out the free evaluation form at the source website if you need help. Get this handled this week though.
Start by going to http://www.annualcreditreport.com... and get a copy of your credit report. Look to see if these clowns are on it.
And yes, call them or pick up the phone when they call.
-DO NOT admit to owing any debt to them
-DO NOT give out ANY personal information, especially social security number or bank info.
-GET THE COMPANY name and address of who you are talking to so you can follow up your conversation with a letter. Get this info first thing because if things go sour you can just hang up on them and go after them later.
-GET THE NAME of the person you are talking to. If they pull that crap about only giving their first name or operator number, tell them to find someone with a real name or you will hang up on them.
-If this is a debt collector, and it's obvious they are not going to believe it's not your debt, verbally tell them to cease and decist all further phone calls, and immediately validate the debt. You will probably have to follow this up with a certified letter.
I would call them and ask why someone is trying to reach you, if you have been making your payments on time there should not be any reason for the collection calls. Are you sure that they have received all of your payments?
iwould answer the call they prombly trying to give u credit so if u are current on all ur bills then u shouldnt have a prombly ansewering the phone.
First, if you do answer, you have the right to tell them to take you off their calling list and to leave you alone. They may be acting as an agent for some company you do business with, but i doubt it.
If you don't know who these people are and they don't leave a message I'd not worry about them. If they have not sent you any direct mail, i.e certified letters, again, I'd not worry. If you are not on the "Don't Call" list, they might be some vendor selling who knows what.
And then it could be some automated calling center, too.
