Question:
ok. i was divorced and went thru bankruptcy 16 yrs. ago. to this day every address, financial transaction, etc. mrs. x starts goes on my credit report. she is remarried with a different name. not only that, but EVERY person who has lived at an address she occupied that does any financial credit transaction, shows up on my credit report. don't the credit reporting agencies have an obligation to verify the identity of the persons involved since they have SO much influence? why can't they be held accountable for the information they disseminate? why is the burden of proof on me to clear up any misunderstanding? has anyone successfully sued a credit reporting agency for erroneous reports?
Answers:
Many people have successfully sued a CRA for this. I would highly suggest learning about credit repair and disputing this information first. Keep a paper trail. Keep records of everything you do and everything they do in case it has to go to court.
If they don't remove the erroneous information exactly as you asked them to, after numerous attempts the only thing you can do is sue them.
Good luck!

i used to work for transunion and to be honest with you...it's really hard to sue a credit reporting agency. they have the best lawyers around that will do everything and anything to go through their rights to find one that will prove they are right. have you tried contacting the credit reporting agencies regarding the problems you have? the credit reporting agencies get the info from your creditors directly, they do not go hunting for information and it's all automated. have you physically removed your ex wife's name from all the accts you have together? getting a divorce and filing bkl doesnt automatically remove your ex from all your accts. if you havent physically called all your creditors to let them know, they will continue to report her info on your credit report along with whatever debt she has accumlated with her new husband. it's not an easy process, i will tell you that but in the end it is worth it. hope this info helps.
