Question:
on the tropicana site in atlantic city it states in payment options "Debit Card usage will greatly reduce available funds"
any idea what this means?
Answers:
When you check into a hotel, they will put a "hold" on funds for incidentals you may charge such as PPV movies.
With a Credit Card it just puts a hold on the available credit but does not actually charge your credit card yet. However the way Debit cards are set up they act a bit differently. With a Debit Card the money is actually withdrawn from your account. This effects your Daily limits that most debit cards have. So if your checking account had $1000 in it and they put a hold of $250 you have used $250 of your daily limit and your checking account now has only $750 in the account. This does get put back when you check-out(minus any charges), so the balance is only effected during the stay.
They hold an amount of money to cover your room and other charges. Because it is a debit, it puts a hold on the account funds.
It is best to use a credit card.
That's worded really funny, this is the only thing I can think of. Sometimes hotels put a card on file in case you lose a key or destroy room. In order to do this they "hold" a set amount of money on the card. Kinda like a deposit on an apartment, you'll get it back if everything is fine. If you use a debit card you wouldn't be able to use this money.
