Will homeowner's insurance cover damage caused by my dog?

Question:
Our dog is 6 yrs old, and has NEVER chewed, dug or ruined anything. We left her home today, for about 3 hours, and when we came home, she had totally ripped up & ruined a large area of carpet! :( Does anyone know if typically homeowner's insurance covers this type of damage? I am going to go look for my policy now, but thought of HiAnswer.com! Thanks so much.

Answers:
No - Animal damage done by your pets is commonly excluded from HO coverage.

So sorry,
And suppose your insurance company comes back and says they'll refuse to continue to insure you if you keep the dog? (Yes, that could happen.)
prrrooobably not. First of all you have to look at it like this...

whats your deductible? $500, $1000? so from the get go you are that much in the hole.
I would be interested in the outcome though. It never hurts to make a call and ask. When you find out if you could email me and let me know that would be great
Probably not. I had to carry an extra rider on my german shepherd in case she bit someone but it did not cover property damage done by the dog. That would be like covering damage done by toddlers drawing on the wall with permanent markers or by a teenage throwing a party.

Dogs get destructive when they are bored. If you no longer trust your dog when you aren't home, try a kennel. After my shepherd ate my carpet for the second time, I had to use a kennel. She actually liked being in there and I didn't have to replace any more carpet or furniture!
No. Your homeowners policy specificially excludes any damage that your pet does to your house or property.
There is no coverage for damage that your animal does to your property. If the dog is digging holes in the carpet, kennel the dog while you are away.
Probably not. Usually animal damage is not covered. You should call your agent and speak with them directly. You also have to put into consideration your deductible, it may be less for you just to get the carpet replaced yourself rather than filing a claim. Secondly, do you really want a claim on your record? That would raise your premium.
No. All standard insurance policies exclude damages caused by pet, animals, vermin, etc. (includes skunks, squirrels and mice).

Sorry -you're on your own . Guess she had some separation anxiety. Or had to go potty really bad. :)
sorry to tell you this but no your not covered
