I personally prefer American Eagle. They have comfy, trendy stuff, yet they have better sales. Their jeans are 50 bucks originally, but you can get them for like 25 later. Hollister has some good sales too. Overall though, AE is the best!

Abercrombie is geared toward ages 18-22, and has a theme of 'casual luxury.' The brand is also more expensive than the other 3 (about $10 more for shorts/jeans), but possibly has higher value/quality.
Hollister is another brand owned by the Abercrombie & Fitch company, aimed at 14-18 year olds. It has a beach theme. I've noticed the clothing is cheaper, but less well-made and materials are thinner than those used for similar products at A&F.
American Eagle targets 15-25 year olds, and is a mix of preppy, athletic, and casual clothing. Their clothing is similar to Abercrombie's but slightly less expensive and more emphasis on sport than can be found in A&F.
