Price gouging is taken advantage of someone at a time of crisis.
You sell flashlights. You have a 2 month supply in inventory. You normally sell the flashlight for $1.00. Suddenly there is a blackout, you then sell your flashlights for $10.00. The next day the lights come back on and you are selling your flashlights for $1.00 again.
You were price gouging during the blackout.
It is there to protect consumers when the demand for a certain product is great like gas during a hurricane.

People here in South Florida were arrested because they were price gouging gas, wood, and some hurricane supplies, I honestly think it is a good thing to have a regulation on this kind of stuff...
There is the "Better Good". I am usually against government interference but gas company profits are ridicules.
Anyone who is trying to take advantage of this situation while American families are forced into making tough choices over whether to fill up their cars or severely cut back their budgets should be investigated and prosecuted.
I believe that federal law enforcement agencies and regulators should take every available step to ensure that all federal laws protecting American consumers from price-fixing, collusion, gouging and other anti-competitive practices are vigorously enforced.
