Question:
Are accountants paid well and how many hours do they have to work per week inorder to earn enough money for a comfortable lifestyle?
Also, what are the draw backs to being an accountant?
Thanks!
Answers:
My father is an accountant and has his own accounting business. He makes over $100,000 a year. So it's pretty good money. But as with most jobs like these, you'll have to bring up your reputation and win over many clients to make a lot of money. But it is still a good career choice. My dad works about 6-8 hours per day, five times a week.
There are some drawbacks. You'll have to stare at the computer a lot, and sit all day long as it is office work. You'll have to study tax laws and take an exam, I think, at least two times a year. The biggest drawback is probably tax season. You become insanely busy at its peak, which is around 3 months long, finally ending in April. It's the most stressful time for my father. He'll work up to 7 days a week, up to 9 hours per day during tax season. But when it's not, his schedule is fairly relaxed and easygoing.
The information may not be 100% accurate since it's not coming from an accountant itself. But this is what I know/see a lot from my father.
Typical 8-9 hrs a day if you work for some company. However, if you open your own office, then that depends on you. Watch out during tax seasons, although most people do taxes online. Most of your customers will be coporate clients.
