Question:
There is another post that discusses this same topic discussing the $29.99 fee, VIP Tune, and charges to Visas. The charge is coming from Limassol Cypress. The website for the company is: https://www.viptune.com/about.php... Someone commented on this being a Visa database theft issue, but our theft is a Mastercard. Someone else commented on how these are all linked there is no way we are, as our credit card is not used (one of those Emergency ones - luckily we check it every month any way).
I think there is an automated system randomly hitting numbers into the https://www.viptune.com/ website and how difficult is it really to come up with the expiration date? They can just keep randomly hitting numbers into the system until BINGO.
So have you checked your bill this month? Last month? Every month?
Have you contacted your credit card company if you find the charges? Should we contact VIP Tunes? Do you think it is them or their clients?
Answers:
I also got hit with a $29.99 charge on 7/11/07 from VIP TUNE Cypress. This card was a Visa. I used it on line at CCO outlet and it was listed on paypal. Don't know how they are linked but thanks to this wonderful website I knew immediately it was a fraud and was able to act quickly. My credit card company took the charge off and cancelled the number. Thanks for the heads up.
I would call my bank/creditor right a away! Contact this viptune and find out what it and ask for validated. Your bank may even cancel that card number and reissue you a new one. So if they try it again it wont go thru and they will know they have caught. The rolling theory is not lawful so some one have your card. They count just randomily charge people accounts without authorization. Good luck to hope this helps
Cannot provide answers, but we had same charge this month. $29.99. Same country. I have not noticed it in previous months (and I should be better about that, but I did run backwards a few months, and did not see it).
And, it is not a real charge for us either.
Well - I work in the Bank of America disputes department, both taking initial disputes over the phone and processessing actual claims. A good portion of the disputes I work are VIP TUNE, and what I advise you to do is:
1) Call your credit card issuer and notify them that you have a billing dispute, tell the representitive you did not authorize this charge.
2) If you look on the back of your statement there should be a form called "Customer Statement of Disputed Items"; You will need to fill this out in full and check *ONLY* box 2, which stands for did not authorize. Be sure to sign and date this form or your issued cannot complete a valid chargeback.
3) Notify your local Attourney General's Office and contact the BBB at http://www.bbb.org.
Be advised, dispute processes are a tedious task and your issuer takes thousands a day, and saying this, the process for one dispute generally takes about 4-6 weeks, but during that time your not liable for that charge and can subtract it from your balance, and finance fees incurred will be refunded once the dispute it resolved. You will be notified by mail in 2-3 weeks from the time your claim is filed on the outcome of your billing dispute.
InsideTheX, I have the same charge from Vip Tune!. How many disputes do you handle from that company?
I just got hit with this one on a Visa that I closed out prior to this charge being added (so I get a $2.50 account maintenance fee for having a balance on a closed account!.. Anyway, I digress...)
I called and did the fraud thing and am waiting for my paperwork. I did some research and on the viptunes.com website there is an alert that states (with grammatical errors included:)
"ATTENTION FRAUD
Due to increasing number [sic] of complaints about fraudulent charges which refer to VIPTUNE, we regret to announce that our company has become a victim of fraudulent activity, organized by several affiliates. We have already contacted appropriate authorities about this situation and are working on finding a resolution."
The real question is, who are these "affiliates?"
